Rob Charles, a cool debonair saxophonist, who started his career in the 70's, performing live music.
He was a member of Leicesters top Reggae band "Groundation" who achieved the status of playing theatres, main stream concerts and supported the famous Dub Poet, Linton Kwesi Johnson, they even had their music played on the radio, and did a live session for BBC's DJ John Peel, and one of their single's, "Juggernaut" a classic dub instrumental, was the opening theme song for a popular Sunday morning talk show.
After gaining more experience in later years, playing Saxophone with various bands, including other Reggae bands and soul bands Rob knew he had more to offer and decided to investigate other styles such as Jazz., and was hooked, by great artistes such as Miles Davis, Grover Washington Jr, Sonny Rollins, and John Coltrane, he soon left for America to develop his skill and returned to the uk to work with the Legendary Courtney Pine CBE, who founded the band The Jazz Warriors.
Rob also formed his own urban Jazz band called Imhotep creating an unique style which had a flavour of Reggea dub, and later went on to form his suave titled ACOOLENSEMBLE which is Rob and usually a trio or quartet. His quote that has carried him on this journey of music is:-
" Jazz is the oxygen of my life, which I have fashioned in the style of the truly gifted"
